About 23 km from Sandakan, roughly a 40-minute drive.

What to do

• Watch orangutans at the feeding platform and the nursery at the twice-daily feeding times.
• Walk the reserve’s nature trails, and join a night walk for nocturnal animals.

The weather here

Orangutans may not come to the platform when they find enough food in the wild, especially in the fruiting season. Boardwalks get slippery in the rain.

Good to know

• Don’t touch the orangutans, even if they come onto the boardwalk: many human diseases can pass to them.
• Run by the Sabah Wildlife Department; check the opening and feeding times before you go.
