A World Heritage site of huge caves, the Pinnacles and a bat exodus at dusk. Most visitors fly in from Miri.

Location

Visitor guide

Getting there

Mulu can realistically only be reached by air: MASwings flies daily from Miri (about 30 minutes), Kuching (about 1 hour 20 minutes) and Kota Kinabalu (about 55 minutes).

What to do

  • Visit the show caves: Deer Cave in the afternoon for the bat flight at dusk, and a boat trip to Clearwater Cave in the morning.
  • Deer Cave has one of the largest known cave passages in the world, and the Sarawak Chamber is the largest known cave chamber.
  • For the fit: the multi-day climb to the Pinnacles.

The weather here

Mulu can be visited all year, with frequent rain. The weather has a major influence on flights in and out, so leave slack in your plans; the humidity is tiring, so spread the caves over separate days.

Good to know

  • Book accommodation and guided activities early: the park says bookings are essential in peak season (June to September and holidays).
  • There are no banks and only limited phone and internet connection: bring what you need.
  • Gunung Mulu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
